Though my journey of Global Learning at Florida International University was not easy; there were times where I wanted to give up, but I perservered every time and completed goals I did not think were possible. I have had the pleasure of meeting incredible students from all around the world and I was honored to study abroad in South Korea. Before embarking on my journey through Global Learning, I did not think I could ever learn another language – or two – but I did it. After taking 4 semesters of Korean and 2 of Japanese, at the same time, I am motivated more than ever to further my knowledge and skills in both languages. I was incredibly humbled being a part of the International Buddy Program where I was matched with an amazing student from India. We shared many conversations about life experiences and about India’s culture and environmental issues, to which I greatly appreciated and loved. My time in South Korea was not only rich in learning language and culture, but with lifelong friendships. I even had the opportunity to travel to Japan, which has been a dream of mine since I was a child. Though I have been apart from my study abroad experience for a year now, I returned home with more motivation to complete my academic goals and a clear path that I wish to pursue. As a result of my Global Learning experience and my time at FIU, I am graduating with a Global Medallion and Magna Cum Laude honors with a double major in Asian Studies and International Relations. I will be preparing to take the TOPIK Exam to test my Korean Proficiency before pursuing higher education at a South Korean University. I also have plans to study at a language school in Tokyo, Japan. I thank Global Learning, my wonderful Professors, and FIU for allowing me to find my passion and for preparing me for the next steps in becoming a Global Learner and a Global Citizen.
